Nestled in the heart of East Asia, South Korea – officially the Republic of Korea (ROK), – is a country renowned for its captivating blend of ancient traditions and cutting-edge modernity.

It has a population of 51.96 million, of which roughly half live in the Seoul Capital Area.

Seoul

Situated on the Han River, in the northwestern part of South Korea, Seoul is the capital and largest metropolis of South Korea.

The Seoul Capital Area (SCA) is the metropolitan area of Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi Province, located in north-west South Korea. Its population of 26 million (as of 2020) is ranked as the sixth largest metropolitan area in the world.

Today, Seoul is known for its modern skyscrapers, high-tech infrastructure, bustling street markets, and historic palaces and temples.  It is home to many globally recognized companies like Samsung, LG, and Hyundai.

Seoul also boasts a vibrant pop culture scene, with K-pop music, Korean dramas, and Korean cuisine gaining international popularity.

Seoul hosted the 1988 Summer Olympics and is home to several prestigious universities, museums, and parks.

Seoul has a rich history spanning over two thousand years, with its roots dating back to the Baekje Kingdom in 18 BCE. Over the centuries, it has served as the capital of various Korean dynasties, including the Joseon Dynasty, which lasted for over five centuries until the late 19th century.
