Gordon Laing of Cameralabs is back with a new Retro Review, this time focused on Nikon’s landmark DSLR, the Nikon D1. First released in 1999, the D1 was the first DSLR Nikon designed and built by itself, following prior Nikon digital cameras built around Fujifilm bodies, like the Nikon E2 and E2S.
The Nikon D1, released in 1999, was Nikon’s first entirely in-house DSLR. While its 2.7MP CCD sensor is decidedly dated, the camera still has a classic Nikon feel, even more than two decades after its release.
